Murals and trompe l'oeil

For centuries, wall decorations such as murals have been a popular form of art, from the prehistoric paintings on the Caves of Lascaux to
Roman frescos. Murals can vary from abstract to trompe l’oeil, the French term, meaning to ‘fool’ or ‘trick the eye’.

Trompe l’oeil magically transforms through illusion using light and shadow to give the impression of depth or distance. Using ingenious
techniques you can turn wooden floors into splendid marble expanses or the bottom of the ocean, adorn plain walls with neo-classical
mouldings or a coral reef, create sumptuous Tuscan art or a children's wonderland. Using the art of faux requires experience and
an in-depth knowledge of materials and tools to ensure a lasting and quality finish.

A professionally painted mural can completely transform the atmosphere and character of an interior. A mural can take anything from
a few days to months to complete and something can be found to suit every budget.

This mural was commissioned for a rest room wall and was part of a series over three floors in an office building.
Two floors had their own sporting scene and one floor was just for 'paradise'. In this picture, the mirrors
can be seen on the right-hand side. The use of the mirrors meant each design was reflected back to complete the scene.
The tones of blues help emphasize the dazzle of the light reflecting on to the water.
